Fruits Of My Labor Literally!

So this is what I have been up to and I am not finished yet.  I guess I got myself on a fruit picking and jam making kick.  Although I am not a huge jam person myself, I do enjoy it on my morning toast on occasion.  I actually enjoy being outdoors and doing the picking and making something from it, but it is rare that I eat most of it, and just like giving it away.  The experience is much more fun!

Raspberries are fun to pick.  I was a little intimidated by all the bees but they really just leave you alone and go about their bee business.  I was expecting much bigger berries, but you have to remind yourself these aren’t fertilizer/miracle grow injected store bought berries.   The season wasn’t quite in full swing, but I loved going out to pick my own!

Then there were peaches, peaches and more peaches!   Ever try a peach that is actually ripe, right off the tree?  You are missing something if you haven’t!  The juice from the peach just runs down your arm.  We all had a bit of a belly ache after our picking but the peaches were beautiful!

Here is some of my finished product.  I am getting good at this stuff!

Now this weekend there are blueberries to be picked and rumor has it that there are more raspberries!  I have a whole house to clean and polish for guests next weekend, a 4yr old birthday party to plan.  Do you think I can get it all in?  If you don’t see me I’m lost in a blueberry field somewhere!  I could open my own general store by now!

One Hundred Hours In A Day and Buzz Lightyear

Do you ever wish you just had more time?

I have been running around like a chicken with its head cut off for what seems to be like and eternity.  I have been so tired yet I cannot sleep, so I have been taking these mini naps where I fall asleep next to the boys and wake up fifteen minutes later.

It all started with my preparations for the garage sale (which was a huge success and the hottest days know to mankind).  After cleaning out the house of all our unwanted stuff, I have gone full force with cleaning the house.  I ignored everything for about six weeks to get ready for the sale.  I am now stem cleaning carpets, painting a few walls, and making the place feel like home again rather than a tornado in the middle of Toys R Us  and a laundry mat.   Thankfully I cleaned out every cabinet and closet which makes this task a little easier.

I have been so lost with all the chores that I almost forgot to come here for a visit and tell you all that I am still alive.  But we all know, that when you are in that cleaning groove, it is best to leave it undisturbed and take full advantage of it!

I have been enjoying the Summer to its fullest though, which makes my time here scarce because of it.  I love the outdoors, and my gardening and fun with the boys.  So far, I have made 10 jars of strawberry jam with the 11lbs of strawberries we picked, last weekend I went raspberry picking and made 5 jars of raspberry jam (will be going back for more!).  This past Sunday my husband and I and the boys went early morning peach picking and had the entire orchard to ourselves, which yielded 4 quarts of canned peaches, and 8 jars of peach jam.  This weekend I will be heading out for blueberries (I am on a fruit kick).  We have been enjoying fresh tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden, and it has just been a total blast, getting away from the mundane things.

What can I say?  I have discovered that I am definitely a country bumpkin and I love the time with my boys!

Now I am off to plan their Birthday party (they have requested a Buzz Lightyear cake), pictures to come!  To Infinity and BEYONNNNNNNNNNNNNDDD people!

A Four Year Old’s Solution

I haven’t been online much lately, because I am getting ready for a garage sale.  I willl be glad when it is over because my house looks like World War three in here.

It was a day like any other and the boys were playing, and fighting over some toy.

One of the boys came to me upset and the conversation went something like this:

Bubba:  “Mommmmmy, brother is not being nice!”

Me:  “Why isn’t borther being nice?”

Bubba:  “He isn’t sharing the toy and is being selfish.”

Me: “Well what should we do about that?”

Bubba: “We should sell brother in the yard sale.”

Me: (can’t stop laughing)

I have been telling them that in order to get new toys for their upcoming birthday, we had to sell their old toys.  So his solution was to sell brother so he could have his toy  LOL!

Garage Sale Biting Off More Than I Can Chew

July 8, 2010 by

So, our community garage sale is right around the corner.  I think I have about two weeks left, and I am feeling overwhelmed.  I have big grand plans to gut the entire house, organize, and get this place in order.  My blog has been ignored so I could tear up my house.   So if I have been missing, I am at the bottom of a pile somewhere.

The house is a big big mess, and the toys are everywhere, but I don’t care.  I figure when its all over, I will get it all back into shape.  I am currently going through every cotton picking thing in my kitchen and filling up the trash bags, and overwhelming the corner in my den.  Ive got miscellaneous Christmas mugs, fine crystal from auntie so and so, that has about 6 inches of dust on it.  I don’t use this foo foo stuff, so…OUT THE DOOR is goes!

I had to relinquish my sentimental, teary eyed saving of every baby toy the boys own and widdle them down to just a few for the next little one.  I saved the favorites and the rest are getting slapped with a price tag.  Clothes are getting sorted, drawers are getting cleaned out, and what we don’t sell is getting donated.

My hope is to earn money for a new couch in the basement, take care of a few repairs, and pay to get the carpet cleaned, which is in great need.

What I hate the most about cleaning, is the stupid odds and ends piles I have laying around.  They are the ones that you just stair at, and wonder what to do with.  Some of it you need, but you don’t really have a good place for it.  I just toss it into a bin.  If you cant find the doo dad…go look in THE BIN.  It’s almost always there!

I hope I survive!  Call 911 if you don’t see me come up for air.

I hate garage sales!
