Mr. Smarty Pants vs The Informer

January 15, 2010 by

I never imagined I would ever have twins, but now that I do it is so funny to see their differences.  Each one is a direct polar opposite of each other.  Mr Smarty Pants is my thinker, he can go off and play for a good hour, and it is so funny to hear him down in the playroom talking to himself.  The informer, likes to be a bit of a pest with his brother, likes to be around someone at all times, is competitive in sports where Mr Smarty Pants could care less.

My little informer, will always come to me in the kitchen and explain the entire situation.  He will tell me if his brother is hurt, if his brother needs a time out.  Anytime I am on the phone, he wants to talk to whoever is on the other side.  He is my little firecracker.

Mr Smarty Pants, makes me laugh on a daily basis with his smarty pants answers. When he was 2 years and some change, I told him he shouldn’t talk back to mommy.  His reply  “I’m not talking back mommy, I am talking forwards!”  The other day we were going down for nap and they are at the age where they ask WHYYYYY all the time.  I responded because I am your mother and Mr Smarty Pants says “You are not a mother….you’re a Mommy!”  I have trouble keeping my composure because he is right most of the time  LOL.

I’m looking forward to what they come up with next!

Mommy vs Boogers

January 12, 2010 by

Yes, you read the title right.  I haven’t been in the bloggy world for the past week because our family caught a new batch of kung foo goo.  I have been wiping noses for days on end and we are on our fifth box of kleenex.  Thank you to Kleenex for the boxes of tissues I received for review awhile back because right now I feel like we own stock.

Both boys got the same germ but it manifested in different ways.  One of my bubbas got his typical breathing issues and out came the nebulizer.  This is always scary because the last time we dealt with this we were minuted from being sent to the hospital from the doctors office.  My other little guy got the worse with the gunk coming from his nose which later turned into an ear infection.

At what age do these booger makers of mine know how to blow their nose?  Trust me we practice, and I demonstrate.   “Ok, blow out  like this”  and inevitably they suck it back up further into their head.  I had to draw the line and break out the nose drops and the booger sucker.  Any mom who has had a child with a cold, knows what the “booger sucker” is.

I knew it would help him, but try convincing a three year old when you are approaching with this alien bulb like thing in your hand.  I feel so horrible, his eyes look like fifty cent pieces and I would swear I was sucking out his brains by the look of total surprise on his face.  I know he feels so much better.  I wonder how long the booger sucker has been around?

DirecTV Needs A Lesson In Customer Loyalty

Television has become almost a staple in everyone’s home and because of that you are at the mercy of the cable and satellite companies if you would actually like to see a real picture on your television set.  Steadily over the years the costs associated with watching TV have risen as well the plethora of channels to choose from.  You can choose to have satellite or cable, a DVR, the sports package, the premium channels, do your laundry package, or just about anything you can imagine for a price and mostly for a complete rip off.

I don’t watch as much TV as my husband, but I do have have some shows and channels that are my favorites.  The boys love Discovery Kids, and Sprout, and a few of the other channels, and it is nice to have some programming geared for them.  It wasn’t until recently, that me and my husband began lamenting over what to do about our current television service.  We had received a new fancy TV as a gift for our finished basement, and two of the receivers (not sure if this is what they are called) on our actual satellite dish died.  So up until getting this new TV we have been limited to watching television in our living room.

So what’s the big deal you ask?  Well we have been stuck in a holding pattern on getting our satellite fixed because we are no longer in a 2 year mandatory contract with DirecTV.  We have been debating on whether or not to call them because they would rope us into another contract that would inevitably cost us more.  We currently have a TIVO which we love and if we switched to cable we would lose that as well.  We would really like our satellite fixed so we can have TV in other rooms of the house.  That isn’t without a few minor hitches either since, in order to watch TV you need their handy dandy receiver as well.  It sounds easy, but not so fast my friend, you better be willing to pony up an additional $6 per box each month.

I am ok with paying for the receiver, it took me a little while to adjust to the idea but then suddenly our monthly package magically changed.  We originally  had Discovery Kids, and all of a sudden it magically disappeared.  I quickly asked my husband if he had changed anything and went to view the packages.  We are paying around $64 a month for our satellite package which originally included Discovery Kids.  I checked the packages and they all included Discovery Kids (what the heck!).

So after many discussions, I am talking about a hundred, my husband decided to call DirecTV up.  We wanted the satellite fixed, wanted to know why we no longer have that missing channel or several and to see if they could offer a better deal for signing into a contract for 2 more years.  No big deal right?  You would honestly think that they would be thrilled to keep us on as paying customers.  Well pardon our delusional thinking, but boy were we ever wrong.  They offered us a few dollars less but only for a year and then we would be paying more for the same package we have today, that we currently pay less for without a contract.  We still wouldn’t have Discovery Kids (which I am still baffled about) and I don’t know how my package magically changes without me knowing.

Actually, if you are a new customer you can get a stunning deal, way better than anything you have as an existing customer.  How does this offer me any incentive to stay with you as a company?  I can see no reason to stay or come back.  DirecTV go back to school and pass the class on customer service, you obviously failed in this department.

Update:  I also ran across an interesting article by Bob Sullivan (The Red Tape Chronicles) on DirecTV and a deception lawsuit.  It is an interesting read and will definitely make you reconsider jumping in as a customer of theirs!

Welcome 2010

I hope that everyone has a very Happy and healthy 2010.  The past few days have been busy, and I have just been catching up on all the things I have ignored over the holidays.

We spent this fine New Year’s day lamenting over what kind of microwave to get, since the last day of 2009, our over the range microwave just decided it wasn’t going to work anymore.  Since money is not overflowing in the house we decided to check out consumer reports and wound up with this particular microwave.  I am hoping and praying that this one will be better.  I don’t know all the particular features since we spent some time getting it installed. I will let you know if I like it or not.  Consumer reports gave it the highest overall rating, and the price wasn’t bad either at Lowes.  We paid $250 with a price match from Best Buy.

Here I thought that Samsung only made dvd players but they apparently make some really cool appliances!   I was drooling over some of their refrigerators at the store.  Now we only have the burner in our stove to fix (it really sucks only having the left front burner working), the side mirror on my car needs repaired (thank god for electrical tape), my poor windshield has a 2 ft long crack and another one on the other side, and the satellite half works.  Maybe 2010 will bring me Mr Fix It….I can only hope!

Hello everyone, I am alive!  I took a little bit of a break from blogging to spend some time with my family and friends. It was nice break and now I am back in the saddle for the upcoming New Year.  It always nice to take a break and come back refreshed.  I got a lot of sleep while we were away and grandma and grandpas, and the boys had a whole lot of fun.

The holidays were really nice except for all the running, but that comes with the territory when you are in from out of town.  The boys got a ton of new toys from Santa and now I must figure out where to put them!

I will be updating regularly on the blog starting in January, and I am looking forward to 2010!  Where does the time go??
