Memorial Weekend
I love when there is a long weekend because we get an extra day. It almost always seems like I am so incredibly busy with chores and errands Saturday and Sunday that it just blows by before we can actually relax together as a family. So tomorrow we are going to grill out and play in the yard. Today the boys got a chance to play in their pool and they had a blast.
I am also excited that my garden is growing so well. We will be having spinach, lettuce, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, squash and green beans this year! I must admit I got a little carried away this year, simply because I was determined to actually grow some things that I wanted to eat. I made a my raised bed smaller and that has made all the difference in the world. I bought some stuff to control the pests in the garden, so they don’t eat all my stuff before we get to enjoy it. As for the bigger pests, I got a really cool sprinkler that is called the Scarecrow that whenever a critter even breathes in the direction of my garden, it will get blasted with water. Lets hope we will have plenty to eat this year!
I hope everyone enjoys their Memorial Day!
Mamapedia Great Parenting Resource
May 21, 2009 by Laurie
I know that being a first time parent can sometimes feel like a lonely job. I know that having online communities have been such a huge help for me as a mother. Not only do I find answers to a lot of my questions but I feel like I have a place where I can share suggestions, share moments and meet moms just like me. It offers the best parenting advice because it is the advice that you seek and not the unsolicited advice that we so often hate.
I was recently introduced to a great resource for moms called Mamapedia. I think it has a wealth of valuable information. Mamapedia enables you to search for answers to your most pressing questions, such as childhood crushes, renting a house, and summer camps, to get empathetic and insightful answers from moms around the country. Mamapedia allows you to quickly navigate through thousands of categories to find the thoughtful, sympathetic-and most importantly-helpful answers to all of your questions. Mamapedia brings millions of women together online, both nation-wide and in their own communities, so they can help each other tackle those difficult parenting questions or even just give recommendations on our favorite pediatricians, playgroups, and kid-friendly restaurants.
They compiled all their answers and organized them by stages which makes finding what you need easy. I love having another place I can go to find these answers and will definitely have this as one of my bookmarks. There are many resources for parents and having one more just makes it even better. After all we could use all the help we can get. This is such a great tool!

Baby Toys Ebeanstalk And Your Child’s Development

Since having the boys, my eyes have been opened to a whole new world of choices that I never really payed too much attention to before. I have always been concerned about their development and have been fairly selective in the toys that I choose, because I want them to get the most benefit from them. To me there are junk toys and toys that actually teach them something. I am a firm believer that not everything has to talk or be battery operated to be of learning value either. I love places to shop that offer me information on selections based on appropriate age and development and gives parent a wealth of valuable resources, because we can use all the help possible.
Ebeanstalk is dedicated to a baby’s development. And they select the best baby toys matched to a baby’s development. To see great information on how a baby grows up, check out the info on their baby toys page.
Picking toys for a baby is not as simple as it sounds. Here are some quick baby facts:
- Toys for a newborn baby: A newborn baby is briefly looking at objects and attempting to imitate facial expressions. They can follow objects with their eyes and usually quiet down, when they are picked up.
- Toys for a three month old: They will enjoy ?frolic play’, reaching for objects and will repeat enjoyable activities. Believe it or not, they will respond to ?no’ (about half the time) and will start babbling.
- Toys for a six month old: They’ll search for hidden objects (object permanence). They’ll reach for themselves in the mirror, play peekaboo, crumple paper, roll from their stomach to their back and even respond to their name.
- Toys for a nine month old: They are pushing toy cars, playing pat-a-cake and looking for hidden sounds. The baby toys they are playing with are also getting more fun.

You can see how children’s play changes so drastically from month to month and year to year. Play is such a valuable tool in encouraging their development that you want them to get the most out of it and get the most out of the money you are spending on toys. Ebeanstalk offers you all of these things in one place which makes it a great resource for parents and a great place to shop for your child.
There is a 15% discount on any first purchase at ebeanstalk — TGS345 — just enter the code at the shopping cart and give the perfect gift tailored for your special little someone!
Kelloggs Plant A Seed Vote For Your Favorite Field
May 16, 2009 by Laurie
Back in January I did a post about a really cool program to help rebuild the playing fields around the United States. So many of then were in pretty bad shape and in an effort to rebuild some of these playing fields, came the launch of the Frosted Flakes Plant A Seed campaign. They realized the need for these playing field as a way to continue to build community and morale.
Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Earn Your Stripes program initiated a call-to-action for a national field renovation.
Since that time, thousands of fields were nominated some with as many as 700,000 supporters! Those fields have now been narrowed down to 100 finalists and your vote will help determine the winning fields. The semifinalist fields were chosen based on the feasibility of the field makeover, the location and age of the field, how often it gets used, how many events take place, what teams use it, the number of other athletic fields in the community, the demand, condition, and the impact a field renovation would have on the community.
From May 1st through the 31st, you can vote for your favorite semifinalist field at www.frostedflakes.com and give communities a gift of a lifetime. I cannot think of a better thing to vote for, because it brings people together, helps build self esteem and encourages growth, and makes a safe place for our children to play. Many of the fields that were nominated, are in desperate need of repair, new equipment, and a complete overhaul. So we should all get out there and vote because it is an opportunity to change lives! It doesn’t cost anything other than a minute of your time to make a difference.

Site Issues
My day was going much too perfectly yesterday. The boys had a wonderful day, they were angels in the store, helped me me do some planting in the garden, and no fighting. I was making a dent in the laundry which was a huge plus because I had fallen behind when I was sick. So perfect! Thats when it happened. I went to do a post on my site and I get “error establishing a database connection.”
I didn’t go into immediate panic because I just assumed that my host was having a few issues. So I waited, got dinner ready, and called my husband to see if he was on the way home. I told him about the site being down and then he goes in that tone “uhhhh that’s not good.” I instantly felt panic because he proceeds to tell me he updated some things for his nephew’s site etc. And then I felt a bit sick because I haven’t yet backed up my site. So, the perfect day tanked right then and there. The night was long, and it turns out the host could restore my data as of 4/25, so we went with that. Thankfully my pages were cahced in google, so I could get my posts back! And the lesson learned is…I will faithfully back up everything to avoid a heart attack from now on!
The adrenaline from worrying all night, has made me so incredibly tired! Amazing how the body responds to stress. Anyway, I am back with a few more grey hairs on my head as a result. Ugh!
